20 injured in IU BCL factional clash

At least 20 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Islamic University branch were injured along with its secretary Rakibul Islam Rakib in a clash between two factions of the organization on the campus in Kushtia. The injured are Bipul Hossain Khan of Islamic History and Culture department, Sumon Ahmed of finance and Banking department, Shams and Amin Hasan of English department, Abdullah of management department of the university.

Witnesses said two groups- a gang of 20 member led by BCL President Robiul Islam Polash and general secretary Rakibul Islam tried to enter into the campus near about three month later while their committee was unwanted by the rebel group leaders and activists of the university.

Over 300 activists of the rebel group of IU BCL led by Faisal Siddique Arafat, Mizanur Rahman Lalon, Towkir Mahfuz Masud and Shishir Islam Babu resisted them to enter in the campus and got on a clash in front main entrance of the university, 20 BCL activists injured.

They also charged four crude cocktail exchanged gunshots. IU proctorial body went to the spot and sent the injured to Kushtia Sadar Hospital for treatment. The rebel group blocked Kushtia-Khulna highway for half an hour demanding punishment for attacking their fellow. 

They also locked the main gate over 3 hours while the routine transport facilities of the university hampered. Police arrested IU BCL secretary Rakibul Islam Rakib from Kushtia Sadar hospital, confirmed Tanvir Arafat, Police Super (SP) of Kushtia.

In this connection, IU authority formed a 3 member probe body headed by Prof Dr Selina Nasrin, provost of Deshratna Sheikh Hasina hall to investigate the incident. Authority asked the probe body to submit their investigation report within seven days.

Hanif Hossain, a third year student of law department filed a case at IU police station against its unit BCL secretary and president, Jahangir Arif, officer in charge of IU police station confirmed. IU assistant proctor Anisur Rahman said they were trying to take all measures to avoid any untoward situation.
