Two suspected Rohingya robbers were killed in an alleged 'gunfight' with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Shamlapur Marine Drive area in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Saiful Islam Sohel alias DB Saiful, 38, second -in-command of Rohingya robber gang Joki group, and Nur Kamal, 34.

RAB-15 Teknaf camp company commander Shahed Mahtab said that a team of RAB-15 conducted a drive in the area where a group of robbers were preparing to commit a robbery around 1:00 am.

Sensing presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on the elite force, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight. At one stage, two 'robbers' were shot dead while the others managed to flee the scene.

Later, the RAB members recovered the bullet-hit bodies of two people. Three RAB men were injured in the gunfight, Shahed Mahtab claimed. One pistol, 11 cartridges and one gun were recovered from the spot, he added.
