Two people were killed and one was injured in a head-on collision between a pick-up van carrying chicken and a sand-laden truck in Gazipur.
One of the deceased was identified as Ariful Islam, son of late Islam Uddin of Faridpur village in Sreepur upazila of the district. The identity of the other deceased is not known.
Contacted, Imtiazur Rahman, sub-inspector (SI) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said two people were killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles at the Salna area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway earlier on Sunday. Police recovered two bodies from the spot. An injured man was sent to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur.
Rafiqul Islam, a resident medical officer of the emergency department, said three people were brought in. Among them, one was already dead. The other two were seriously injured. Ariful Islam, one of the injured, died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Another person named Selim is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
