Two suspected criminals were killed in separate gunfights with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Cox’s Bazaar and Pabna early on Tuesday.
In Cox’s Bazar, the incident of reported gunfight took place at Boro Habibchara area of Teknaf upazila.
Suspected drug dealer Md Rubel 22, was killed in the gunfight with RAB. Rubel is son of Md Siddique of Jadimura area under Hinla union of the upazila.
The law enforcers recovered 10,000 pieces of Yaba, a homemade weapon and two rounds of cartridges during the gunfight.
Company Commander of Teknaf camp of RAB-15 Lt Mirza Shahed Mahatab said on information, a team of RAB carried out a drive in the area. At the time, the gunfight took place with some drug dealers.
In Pabna, Amin Sheikh alias Amin Dakat, 41, son of Amin Uddin Sheikh of Payda village at Gayeshpur union of Sadar upazila was killed in the gunfight with RAB. Aminul Islam, Company commander of RAB-12 in Pabna Camp, said, on information that a gang of robbers was taking preparations to commit robbery in the area, RAB members conducted a drive at 3:00 am.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self defence, triggering a gunfight, he said.
After the gunfight, the elite force recovered Amin’s bullet-hit body from the spot and took to Pabna General Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead, he added.
A pistol, a knife and four round bullets were recovered from the spot, he added.
