Two garment workers were killed as truck crushed them in Sherpur upazila of Bogura district on Sunday, while they were coming from Dhaka on a motorcycle.
The deceased were identified as Nupur Akter, 22, daughter of Nazrul Islam, resident of Dakkhin Gridari village in Gaibandha upazila and Runa Akter, 18, daughter of Abdur Rashid, resident of the same village.
The motorcycle rider, Rakibul Islam, was also injured at that time. Deceased Nupur Akter was his wife. All three of them used to work in a garment factory in Gazipur.
The incident occurred in front of a gas station in Bhabanipur area of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Highway Camp Azizul Islam confirmed the matter. He said that upon hearing the news of Nupur Akter's mother's death, they set off early in the morning on a motorcycle. When they reached in front of Omera gas station in Bhabanipur union, the motorcycle fell onto the road. An unknown truck ran over Nupur and Runa at that time, killing them on the spot. The driver, Rakibul, was seriously injured.
The OC said the truck fled the scene and could not be apprehended. After completing the legal procedures, the bodies were handed over to the family.
