At least two people were killed and two others were injured after a train hit a rickshaw van at Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place when the victims were crossing the Rajbari-Bhanga railroad at Sriramdia area under Dangi union of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Wahed Molla, 50, son of Wajed Molla of Sriramdia village, and Litu Molla, 45, son of Sarwar Molla.
The injured persons are Rafiq Sheikh and Hannan Sheikh. They were admitted to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
Faridpur Railway Station Master Masud Rana Rony confirmed the matter. He said, “The victims used to reap rice at different places as hired contractors. They had a rickshaw van to carry a shallow engine and a portable rice reaping machine with them during work.”
At the time of the incident, they were crossing the rail tracks using an unguarded illegal gate when the Madhumati Express train hit the van, leaving two of them dead on the spot, while two others injured, he added.
