The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested two persons named Ibrahim (37) and Sohrab (32) in a raid at Chargasia under Harni Union in Noakhali's isolated island upazila Hatiya on Wednesday.
Two pistols, three rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones with SIM cards and Tk 7,500 in cash were seized from them. RAB sources said the detainees were involved in robberies in the coastal region. They were sent to jail on Thursday morning. Detainee Ibrahim is the son of Abul Kalam of Chargazaria area under Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur district and Sohrab Hossain, son of Abdul Haque of Hatiya’s Shunyerchar area.
RAB-11, CPC-3 Lakshmipur camp company commander Additional Superintendent of Police Khandaker Md Shamim Hossain confirmed the matter and said that a group of 5-6 robbers including two detainees were staying at Baraulia Bazaar in Chargasia with weapons for the purpose of robbery. On the basis of such news, an operation was carried out in the area on Wednesday. Two people were arrested with weapons and ammunition.
He further said that the members of the inter-district robber gang used to intimidate, kill, extort, rob and kidnap people in Hatia and Ramgati areas of the coast. A case has been filed against them at Hatia police station for recovering weapons and preparing for robbery.
