Mymensingh District Police's Detective Branch (DB) has arrested two fraudsters on charges of soliciting and extorting money from a candidate on the waiting list for recruitment in the army.
The arrested are Ainuddin (50) of Sadar Upazila and Delwar Hossain (28) of Muktagachha upazila. District DB Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter on Friday afternoon. He said that the two swindlers promised to get a job by calling a candidate named Sohail Mia (18) from Durgapur in Netrokona to Mymensingh Sadar by calling him. For this, they made a contract of Tk 4 lakh and left the documents along with the original certificate of the job seeker as security. The job seeker is scheduled to appear in Ghatail Cantonment on Friday along with his original documents. For this, on Thursday afternoon, a job seeker appeared at the Mantala market near the house of the fraudster Ainuddin with Tk 2 lakh 20 thousand instead of Tk 4 lakh. The fraudsters threatened to arrest Sohail Mia and his father Manjur Hossain and destroy their documents if they did not pay the full amount at that time. The DB OC further said that a person who was with Sohail and Manjur in that situation tactfully informed the DB police. A team of DB police immediately raided the Ganeshampur area of Sadar and released the detained job seeker and his father. Besides, they recovered Tk 220,000 in cash from Ainuddin and Delwar and arrested them.
After filing a case with the Kotwali Model Police Station, they were handed over to the court, the police official said.
