Local people caught two fake journalists when they were engaged in extortion from a private school at Shahibag area in Savar on Wednesday evening.
Later, they were handed over to police. A case was filed with Savar Police Station in this regard.
The arrestees were identified as Biddut Ahmed Mia, son of Saiful Islam Mia of Boro Mirjapur area in Mithapukur Police Station in Rangpur, and Ratan Bishwas 39, son of Md Shaheb Ali Bishwas of Ulpur village in Sadar Police Station of Gopalganj.
According to the case statement, a team of some frauds, led by Mofizur Rahman Sohel, went to the private school named ‘Little Star Kindergarten’ at Shahibag area and demanded Tk 70 thousand as extortion on Wednesday evening. Later, the locals beat them and caught two frauds. The other frauds including Mafizur Rahman Sohel managed to flee.
AFM Sayeed, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, confirmed the matter. He said that on information, a team of police rushed to the spot and detained two frauds but the others managed to flee before police arrived. The arrestees were produced before a Dhaka court.
