The Mritshilpi Sammanana Parishad brought down the curtain on a 2-day artisans’s conference at the Ashwini Kumar Hall in Barishal city on Saturday afternoon.
The event’s closing session featured a discussion and awards ceremony.
Arjun Pal from Munshiganj received the Zainul Abedin Lifetime Award. Besides, 15 artisans were honoured in different categories.
Tapan Pal and Asim Pal from Faridpur, Subodh Pal from Naogaon, Bikas Das from Patuakhali, Sushanta Pal and Ridoy Saha from Rajshahi, Shyamli Rani Pal from Maheshpur, Rupak Pal of Bakerganj, Vishwanath Pal and Babul Pal from Nalchity, Savitri Pal from Jhalakati, Shobha Rani Pal from Tangail, Uma Rani Pal from Madaripur, Khokon Pal from Kishoreganj and Imran-Uz Zaman were honoured at the event, which was inaugurated by Barishal City Corporation’s outgoing mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah on Friday.
Dean of fine arts faculty of Dhaka University artist Nisar Hossain delivered the welcome speech at the closing session, which was inaugurated by Barishal deputy commissioner Shahidul Islam.
Among others, additional deputy commissioner Sohail Maruf, convener of the event Sushant Ghosh and president of Charukla Barishal Dipankar Chakraborty spoke at the event.
Artists Dhali Al Mamun, Dilara Begum Jolly, Kazi Mozammel Hossain, Ekushey Padak-winning journalist Ajay Dasgupta and others also were present at the programme.
Two hundred potters received financial support during the two-day event, which also featured a crafts fair and cultural show.
Artisans from across the country participated in the fair, which featured 14 stalls.
