A total of 22 people were arrested and cases were filed against 150 unidentified others on the allegation of attacking and assaulting two cops in Bogura who forbid them to organise a mass gathering in observance of the death anniversary of a local Pir on Wednesday.
Arrested persons were sent to jail through the court on Thursday. According to sources, every year an annual Urs Mahfil on the death anniversary of Pir Sherajul Haque Chisiti, father of late language veteran Gaziul Haque, is held at his shrine where hundreds of his devotees thronged.
Like previous years, this year on March-25, a large number of female and male devotees gathered the shrine premises to observe the Urs Mahfil but due to scare of Corona Virus spread police on Wednesday rushed to the spot and forbade them not to throng at the spot. But, by defying the ban, several hundred devotees continued to stay at the spot even at night.
As a result, around 9-30 pm on Wednesday, two policemen- Incharge of Upasahar Police outpost Nannu Khan and SI Zahidul Islam arrived at the Urs premises and asked the devotees to stop the programme and to leave the place but the devotees dragged the two cops inside a room and give them a mass beating.
Being informed, a huge contingent of police headed by Additional Police Super of Bogura Sadar Circle Sanaton Chakrvarty with Officer -in-charge of Bogura sadar thana SM Badiuzzman rushed to the spot and arrested 22- people from there and sent them to jail through the court on Thursday.
Rezaul Karim Reza, Inspector (Investigation) of Bogura sadar thana informed, SI Gafur filed the case accusing some 175 people including 24 identified persons for beating two policemen and for creating obstacle in performing government duties. Arrested persons have been sent to jail through the court.
