2,500 farmers in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila received jute seeds free of cost under incentives to expand jute farming and yield both.
The incentives were given in Kharip- in 2023-24 season from the agricultural office on Thursday.
Upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Razia Akter Chowdhury in Jhenaidah sadar had distributed the seeds among the poor and marginal framers at upazila parishad premises as chief guest.
Presided over by upazila agricultural officer (UAO) Nur E Nabi, upazila social welfare officer Abdul Hai Siddiquee, additional agricultural officer Junayed Habib and agricultural extension officer (AEO) Mir Raqibul Islam among others present as special guests.

The nation is expecting the jute could regain the international markets like past times and help build the financial and social base of the jute farmers once again. Upazila Agricultural Office sources said a total of 2,500 poor and marginal farmers of 17 unions and a municipality in Jhenaidah sadar are receiving the jute seeds as incentives.
Jamalpur Correspondent adds: Agriculture Department will disburse incentive among 3,400 small and marginal farmers for increasing cultivation and production of Aush paddy in the district in the upcoming Kharip season-1.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Office sources said 3,400 small and marginal farmers in all the seven upazilas of the district will get the incentive in the Kharip season-1 which will begin from March 16 next.
Each of the farmers will get five kilogram Aush paddy seed of High Yielding Variety, 10-kilogram Di Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer and 10-kilogram Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertilizer free of cost for cultivating one bigha of land, the DAE sources said.
Agriculture Department will disburse 1700 kilograms of Aush paddy seed while Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will supply the remaining 15,300 kilograms seed.
