A total of 2,212 students from 51 schools in Rajshahi city received prizes for their laudable performance in book reading on Friday.
They got the prizes in a colourful distribution ceremony held at Shilpakala Academy auditorium hosted by Bishwa Sahitya Kendra (BSK). More than 6,000 students took part in the year-round book reading programme 2023 for flourishing their latent talents.
BSK, under its Book Reading Habit Programme, organised the programme supported by Grameenphone to give away prizes among the students who show their good performance in the evaluation phase. Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir attended the ceremony as the chief guest while retired Secretary Aminul Islam Bhuiyan, Artist Khairul Alam Sabuj, Circle Marketing Head of Grameenphone Shahidnur Rahman and BSK Director Shamim Al Mamun were present as special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said books always make people beautiful, bright and prosperous. Only the people enriched with a prosperous heart can build bright Bangladesh.
There is no alternative to book reading for building Smart Bangladesh as only it can enlighten people and make them perfect. Books help people to acquire knowledge about the outside world, stressing the need for reaching books at the doorsteps of the readers to encourage them to read.
