A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-11 in a drive on Sunday night detained 19 transport extortionists from different spots on Dhaka-Chattagram Highway in Narayanganj.
RAB members also recovered 1 lakh and six thousand extortion money and 18 cell phones used for extortion work from their possession.
Additional police super cum media officer of RAB-11 Alepuddin in a media brief mentioned that all detainees were engaged in extortion from buses and auto rickshaw also harassed the home goer’s passengers on eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.
All the nineteen were arrested from Simrail, Kanchpur and Modonpur transports stoppage.
The arrestees were identified as Mosharaf, Shamim, Rabbi, Imon, Ershad, Sumon, Jahangir, Alamgir, Salam,Zia, Mahfuz, Mohshin, Monsur, Arshad, Johr, Faruk, Humayun, Kawsar and Monir.
On May 31, the same team of RAB also detained 13 transport extortionists from the same road, RAB added.
Legal procedure was taken against the arrestee with concerned police station.
