178 students nominated for Prime Minister Gold Medal Award

The University Grants Commission published the list of 178 students from different universities for the award on Sunday.

Students from various universities who passed with record marks in graduation have been nominated for 'Prime Minister Gold Medal 2019', organized by Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC)

The information was informed on Sunday in a notice signed by Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Director of Research Support and Publication Division of UGC.

JnU students who got gold medals are : SuraiyaBinteRafiq from Islamic Studies Department, Mitu Rani Roy from the Economics Department, Ismail Hossain Hriday from Statistics Department, Sharmin Akhter of the Department of Microbiology, Sagar Islam of Department of Accounting and Information Systems and Mahmuda Amir Eva of Law Department.

The selected students from Jahangirnagar University (JU) are: MousumiAkter of Drama and Dramatics department, Beauty Akter of Environmental Sciences department, MarufatunNahar of Economics department, MumtarinJannatOishee of Microbiology department, RabeyaJannat from the Marketing department, and Lima Aktar of Law and Justice Department.

The 8 students of Islamic University (IU) selected for the medal are- TohaToriq of the Al-Quran and Islamic studies department, Rayhan Ali of the Arabic language and literature department, MdMijanur Rahman of the Economics department, RubaiyaYeasmin of the Law department, MdFiroz Khan of the Finance and Banking department, Supti Chakraborty of the Statistics department, Selim Reza Zibon of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department and MuntahaBinteMukhles of the Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering  department.

The students ofChattogram University are Mohammad Noor Aliof Institute of Forestry and

Environment Science, ZaheerFurkan of Arabic, JannatulFerdous of Economics, Mohammad Nawaz Jamil of Computer Science and Engineering,TasfiqaKhanam of finance,UmmeHabibaof Faculty of Law, Tahsina Shams Sadiaof Faculty of Biology, Soil Science and Raihan Ahmed of Oceanography .

Congratulating the eight students of CU, CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shireen Akhtar said, this is a happy news for us. CU students are always bringing fame to the country. I am hopeful that this number will increase in the future.

JnU Student Welfare Director Professor Dr. Md. Ainul Islam said, "Six students from six faculties have been nominated for gold medals. I wish them all the best. Competition among students will increase if they get this medal. Interest in studies will be increased. Above all, it will be helpful in talent development." Earlier, in December 2021, a list of six students, one each from six faculties of JnU, was sent to the UGC as per the policy of 'Prime Minister Gold Medal - 2019'.

Incidentally, since 2005, Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) started awarding the 'Prime Minister Gold Medal' to meritorious students. Recently, the names of the students of different universities nominated for this medal were published on the UGC's own website.
