Coast Guard seized 16,800 kg (420 tonnes) of jatka hilsa in a raid in the Meghna river slope area of Hatia Upazila of Noakhali on Friday.
In this incident, 16 persons involved in Jatka transport were arrested. On Friday afternoon, the seized jatkas were distributed among local orphanages, poor and needy people in the presence of Assistant Commissioner (Land) Golam Sarwar and Upazila Fisheries Officer Saju Chowdhury. The 16 arrested persons were released with a bond saying that they will not be involved in such activities in the future.
Media Officer of Coast Guard Headquarters Lt. Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi said that on the basis of secret information, an operation was conducted in the Meghna River slope area by BCG Station Hatia under Bangladesh Coast Guard, South Zone under the leadership of Section Commander M Rafiqul Islam on Friday morning.
During the raid, a bulkhead was seized while coming to Hatiya Chairman Ghat from Manpura in Bhola. Later it was searched and 16 public transporters were arrested along with 420 man jatkas.
