A violent clash between supporters of two mayoral candidates in Rupganj left at least fifteen people injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 10:30 PM in the Kalatoli area during the campaign for the Kanchon Pourashava election.
Eyewitnesses reported that supporters of Rafikul Islam and Abul Bashar Badsha, both valid mayoral candidates, engaged in a fierce confrontation using sharp weapons. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Upon receiving information, Rupganj police swiftly arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Habibur Rahman confirmed that police are maintaining a presence to ensure ongoing safety.
Rupganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ahsan Mahmud Russell stated that no official complaints have been filed yet regarding the incident.
The Kanchon Pourashava election is scheduled to be held on June 26.
