145 varieties of mango put on display at Bagha fair

A total of 145 varieties of mango are being exhibited at the three-day Agriculture Technology Fair at Bagha Upazila in Rajshahi.

Bagha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tariqul Islam inaugurated the fair. It was organised by the Upazila Agriculture Extension Department on the Upazila premises on Thursday. 

A total of 15 stalls were set up at the fair where mango of various varieties has been exhibited. 

A total of 105 varieties of mango were exhibited in the fair last year. 

A large number of visitors thronged the fair to see different types of mango. The visitors said they were awestruck seeing such a huge variety of mangoes at the fair. 

After the inauguration of the fair, Tariqul Islam, UNO of Bagha Upazila, said Bagha would be a model for the farmers. Bagha is one of the best agriculture-based upazila in the country. The farmers of the Upazila have developed the agriculture sector.

Bagha Upazila Agricultural Officer Shafiullah Sultan said the mangoes of Bagha were being exported abroad for last several years. Besides, fruits like papaya, jujube, and guava are also being experimentally exported in foreign countries from Bagha. Many farmers are expressing their interest in cultivating various fruits at their fields as they found cultivating fruits profitable. The fruits, vegetables and spices, including sweet potato, elephant foot yam and turmeric would be exported abroad in the near future.

The 145 varieties of mango are- Laxmanbhog, Dudhkomar, Khalsi Fazley, Apple Guti, Hybrid Lakna, Khirsapat, Bhadri, Madhukhalsi, Himsagar, Sumashi, Pepelangra, Jagat Mohini, Kakri, Arajam, Hatijhol, Dudhsagar, Amrapali, Anaroshi, Madhuchuski, Mallika, Jaoni, Kalibhog, Ashwinapagare, Madhumoti,  Miajaki( Surjodim), Jhinuk, Ashwina, Jamaibhog, Chengmai, Booguti, Ranipasand, Chosa, Chorusha, Khireswar, Totapuri, Thuti, Jasorerguti, Anamika, Boishakhi, Jamrulerguti, Fania, Arajam, Kishanbhog, Johura, Kaluaguti, Kaduma, Bari Mango-4, Anarkali, King of Chakapat, Chapaguti, Bananamango, Bou Bhulano, Biswasundari, Nengarguti, Lakhey ek, Idur Chata, Chandu Guti, Bombai, Babuijhuku, Guti( Boro), Mishribhog, Khajaguti,Gutu(Chhoto), Bauguti, Chinikhora, Sura Fazley, Dhalaguti, Chungabhog, Bagha sahi, Mayaboti, Mohonbhog, Bangabasi, Sagarbasha, Haribhanga, Asharim Baloni, Moksedguti, Chatubhisali, Khodadada, Nandafram, Kalibhog, Jaitun, Kuaparhari, Golla Beli- Bari Mango 11, Batasi, Senri, Gourmoti, Dhomia, Bhujahari, Katimon, Senduri, Chapati, Goplabhog, Mohanthakur, Modhurani, Beli, Misridana, Koitur guti, Dudhswar, Salambhog, Jilapikara, Kumrajali, Shyamlota, Gol Kachamitha, Daroga bhog, Gopal Khas, Maldah, Late Anarashi, Rangbilash, Brindabanguti, Rahimu, Dilsa, Mishrikanta, multani, Chandanbhog, Kazipasand, Mohanbashi, Kalibhog, Sursiguti, Mishri Damdam, Jhumka Guti, Beke Boishakhi, Baje Kalas, Rashid sundari, Khagrai, Badal, Suruj Ati, Thakurer Vita, Raghunath, Sylheti Guti,Sobeda, Singapuri Langra, Ata Khalsi, Abul Guti, Shaoni Ati, Rup Sundari, Chandansuri, Adori , Peta and Modhumati Guti.

Nabab Ali, a college teacher of Pirgachha village in the Upazila said Bagha is famous for mango. However, I have never seen so many varieties of mango. 

Abdul Hanf Mia, Professor of Political Science of Bagha Shahdowla Gov’t College said the mango fair of this year is exceptional. Many people were visiting the fair. A team of students from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh arrived in Bagha to watch the mango fair. 

Mango farmer of the area Shafiul Islam Chhana said that he had been exporting mangoes in many countries for several years. If the mango export continues, the farmers will earn adequate profits.

Among others, the inaugural programme of the mango fair was attended by Bagha AC (Land) Shamsul Islam, Upazila Health Officer Dr Asaduzzaman and Inspector of Bagha Police Station Soyeb Khan.
