120 candidates to contest in 16 Ctg seats

The Returning Officers have allocated symbols to the candidates to contest the JS polls in 16 constituencies of Chattogram the 12th National Assembly elections of Chattogram. Six independent candidates got ‘eagle’ symbol, 4 ‘kettle’ symbol, 3 ‘truck’ symbol, 2 ‘cauliflower’ and one each got watermelon and bench symbol.

Symbols were allotted in Divisional Commission and District Administration offices in Chattogram from 10 am on Monday.

According to information received from the office of the Returning Officer, out of 129 people, 9 candidates withdrew on the last day (Sunday).  At present 120 candidates will contest in 16 seats. 

Chattogram-1 (Mirsharai): Independent candidate Mohammad Gias Uddin has received the eagle symbol. Independent candidate Gias Uddin may compete with the Boat symbol candidate Mahbub Ur Rahman Ruhel.

Chattogram-2 (Fatikchari): Independent candidate former Fatikchari upazila chairman Md.  Abu Tayub got the watermelon symbol and another independent candidate Mohammad Shahjahan got the eagle symbol. A total of 8 candidates are competing in this seat. 

Chattogram-3 (Sandwip): Independent candidate Swachip leader Md. Jamal Uddin Chowdhury received the eagle symbol.  Although there are 8 candidates in this seat.

Chattogram-4 (Sitakunda): A total of 6 candidates from different parties including Awami League are contesting as there are no independent candidates, only party symbols are allotted to the candidates.

Chattogram-5 (Hathazari): Independent candidate Md Shahjahan Chowdhury got kettle symbol.  North district Awami League president MA Salam was nominated by Awami League for Hathazari seat.  Although there are 7 candidates in this constituency, there is a glimpse that there may be competition with Trinamool BNP candidate former CHAKSU VP Nazim Uddin against Jatiya Party candidate Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud.

Chattogram-6 (Raojan): Independent candidate Shafiul Azam got truck symbol.  Although there are 5 candidates in this seat, there is no strong opponent against ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury.

Chattogram-7 (Rangunia): There is no independent candidate in this Constituency. The current information minister Hasan Mahmud is contesting with the boat symbol in this seat.  

Chattogram-8 (Boalkhali): Independent candidate in Finance Secretary of Awami League Abdus Salam received Kettle symbol.  There are 10 candidates from different parties in the seat.  As Awami League candidate Noman Al Mahmud withdrew his candidature with the support of Jatiya Party's Solaiman Alam Seth, the Jatiya Party candidate will compete with independent candidate Abdus Salam.

Chattogram-9 (Kotwali): Seven candidates of different political parties contested in this seat.  Current Deputy Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel can score goals in an empty field as there is no strong opponent.

Chattogram-10 (Double Mooring): Independent candidate Farid Mahmud got ‘kettle’ symbol.  Apart from this, the CCC former mayor Manjur Alam got the cauliflower symbol.  Although there are 9 candidates in the seat.

Chattogram-11 (Bandar-Patenga): There are seven candidates in this seat. Independent candidate Ziaul Haque Sumon got the ‘kettle’ symbol.  Awami candidate MA Latif is in the seat. 

Chattogram-12 (Patiya): Shamsul Haque Chowdhury did not get party nomination. South District Awami League President Motaherul Islam Chowdhury was nominated for this seat.

Chattogram-13 (Anowara): Seven candidates are contesting in this seat with party symbols.  Current land minister Awami League candidate Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed is contesting in this seat.

Chattogram-14(Chandanaish):

 Independent candidate Abdul Jabbar got ‘truck’ symbol.  

There are 8 candidates in this seat.  Awami League candidate Nazrul Islam and Abdul Jabbar may compete in the constituency known as LDP's stronghold.

Chattogram-15 (Satkania): Independent candidate former upazila chairman MA Motaleb received ‘eagle’ symbol.  Abu Reza Mohammad Nezamuddin Nadvi is the candidate of Awami League in Satkania seat.  Nadvi's main opponent in this seat is Motaleb. 

Chattogram-16 (Banshkhali): A total of 10 candidates including three independent candidates are contesting in this seat.  

Of them, vice President of South District Awami League Mujibul Haque, CIP, is the most most opponent.
