An operation team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Chapainawabganj camp arrested 11 gamblers for gambling on the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament on Friday night.
The arrestees were identified as Md Mohammad Tofazzal Hossain (55), Shahin Akter (52), Niyamul Haque (50), Ruhul Amin (50), Ismail Hossain (36), Karim alias Chhobi (45), Rabiul Alam (50) and Idris Ali (41), Abul Kalam Azad (42), Rabiul Alam (38) and Tahir Hossain (53).
It has been reported that on the basis of secret information, the company commander of RAB Chapainawabganj camp came to know that gambling was going on in front of the Hossain Petrol Pump adjacent to Bishwaroad in Chapainawabganj.
After receiving the news, an operation team of RAB Chapainawabganj camp raided the area and arrested 11 gamblers while betting on IPL on television and gambling in exchange for money.
The operation was carried out inside the office room of the ground floor office of the Chapainawabganj District Contractors' Association at Swarupnagar in Ward no 3 of the Chapainawabganj municipal area.
Two sets of old playing cards, a 43-inch LED TV and Tk 83,000 in cash were recovered at the time. In this incident a case was filed at Sadar Model Police Station.
