Eleven meritorious students of Shamsunnahar Hall of Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday have received the ‘Fatema Iqbal Trust Fund Scholarship’ for their excellent academic performances.
DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor DR Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed the scholarships among the students as chief guest at the Shamsunnahar Hall auditorium in the campus.
Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman paid tribute to the memory of the late Fatema Iqbal, saying that DU is a place to study democratic values. It is important to have a close relationship between teachers and students. Ideally, there is no fundamental difference between parents and teachers. Teachers must be sincere and friendly with their students. Likewise, every student should respect their teachers.
Shamsun Nahar Hall Principal and Member of the Trust Fund Professor Supriya Saha, former Director of the Institute of Education and Research and late Fatema Iqbal's colleague Professor Salma Akhter, Joint Tax Commissioner of the National Board of Revenue Nasheed Rizwana Monir, Residential Teachers Syeda Mumtaz Shirin and Tanzina Haque, University Registrar Md Enamuzzaman, different hall provost and students of the university, among others, were present at the occasion.
The recipients of the scholarship are – Fatema Akhter, Anamika Haque Annie, Saima Khanam, Airin Jahan of Political Science faculty, Mahfuza Akhter, Syeda Saimun Jannat Pranti of Printing and Publication Studies, Kaniz Fatema of Acoounting and Information Systems, Tahmina Akhter of faculty of Management Information Systems, Farida Yesmin, Mehbuba Missouri of Law and Faria Binte Firoz of Education and Research Institute, said a DU press release.
