A total of 11 candidates, including wife of former State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Enamur Rahman, filed nomination papers to participate in Savar Upazila Parishad elections.
Of them, two candidates are contesting for the post of chairman while four for male vice-chairman and five for female vice-chairman.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers began on Tuesday.
Savar Upazila Election office sources said Upazila Awami League general secretary and present Chairman Manjurul Alam Rajib and Tariqat Front central leader of Shimulia Union Mehedi Hasan Bulbul have filed nominations as chairman candidates.
Dhaka Zila Swechasebok League president Imtiaz Uddin, Dhaka Zila Krishak League member secretary Ahsan Habib, Ashulia Union Jubo League vice-president Mosharraf Khan and former Dhaka Zila Chattra League president Sayedul Islam submitted nominations for vice-chairman post.
Savar Upazila Awami League deputy office secretary Misti Chowdhury, present woman vice-chairman and Dhaka Zila Mahila Awami League president Yasmin Akhter Sumi, Dhaka Zila Jubo Mahila League vice-president Manika Hasan, Nadia Nur Tanu and former state minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Enamur Rahman’s wife Dr Farida Huq will participate as women the vice-chairman post.
Election symbol will be distributed on May 2 and voting will take place on May 21. The voting will begin at 8am in the morning and it will continue till 4pm without any break.
The total voters of the upazila are 9 lakh and 915. Of them, 4 lakh 62 thousand 212 are male voters and 4 lakh 38 thousand and 668 are female and only 15 are third gender voters.
The upazila covering three parliamentary constituencies have 348 registered polls centers.
