Hundred destitues who were leading an inhuman life for want of a shed over their heads at Fakirabad village of Jhenaidah received houses from the government on Wednesday morning under Bangabandhu Palli and Dhanmandi 32 Guchchagram housing project.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jhenidah Saroj Kumar Nath as the chief guest handed over the houses made of colourful tin and bricks among the homeless through a lottery, on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
A discussion meeting was held before handing over the houses at the project area with Jhenaidah Sadar upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Badruddoza Subho in the chair.
Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Advocate Abdur Rashid, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Khan Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, Assistant Commissioners Shariful Haque and others attended the programme as special guests.
DC Saroj Kumar Nath said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been ensuring accommodation for every homeless families as per her election pledges. To fulfill the dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of ‘Shonar Bangla’, the PM has been working round the clock. He urged all to work hard in this regard.
Beneficiaries Panna Kahtun, Sewly Begum and Manwara Begum said they could not express their satisfaction and gratitude to PM Sheikh Hasina as they are now safe and protected having new houses of their own. It will help them to make their children good citizens, they said.
