10 Birangonas accorded reception

Ten Birangonas of Ataikula village under Mirat union of Raninagar of Naogaon district were accorded reception and awarded crests by district Police administration at a function held beside the mass-grave of Ataikula on Sunday morning. 

Abdul Mannan Mia, Superintendent of Police of Naogaon handed over the crests, one blanket and a saree each to Birangona Maya Rani Sutradhar, Rashmoni Sutradhar, Sandhya rani Paul and Geeta Rani Paul and also handed over the same to the family members of deceased Birangonas Bani Rani Paul, Khanto Rani Paul, Renu Bala and  Sushma Sutradhar. 

The function was attended, among others, by Additional Superintendent of Police Rakibul Akhter, former Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Ismael Hossain, Officer in charge of Raniagar Police station Zahurul Islam, Meerut union parishad chairman Rafiqul Islam, Khatesswar union parishad chairman Asaduzzaman Pintu and Praddut Kumar Paul. 

It is learnt, during Liberation war in 1971, marauding Pakistani Pakistani army attacked people of Ataikula village under Mirat union and killed 53 people and raped and tortured at least 10 women. Those women were recently recognised as Birangona and their names were included in the list of the freedom fighters.
