Bangladesh will receive a consignment of 1 million doses of Pfizer vaccine from COVAX facility on August 30, Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said.
Those doses are gifted by the United States.
The health minister said a Qatar airways flight carrying those shots will reach the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 7:15pm on that day.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Miller and the health minister will be present at the airport to receive those doses.
Bangladesh will receive 6 million Pfizer jabs from COVAX facility.
The remaining 5 million will arrive in Bangladesh in phases by September, the health minister said.
The US administration says they are working with its G7 partners, the EU, COVAX, and others in a multilateral effort focused on saving lives, ending the pandemic, and supporting the global economic recovery.
Bangladesh started administering the first doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at three centres in Dhaka on June 21.
