Apart from reorganizing the party’s strength at the grassroots, the ruling Awami League is mobilizing around one lakh of its party men to counteract false propaganda and rumours.

The move is to counter the ill motives of the anti-liberation forces who are trying to tarnish the image of the government at home and abroad, said party sources.

The party took the decision following an instruction of the party president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Abdus Sabur, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary of Awami League, said that the party’s central sub-committee on Science and Technology already has started its activities in regard to the party leader’s instructions.

As part of the initiative, the-subcommittee held a workshop on ‘Publicity Policy on Social Media’ with help of the Centre for Research and Information.

Sabur said that anti-government rumours and propaganda spread by the vested quarters might be increased centring the upcoming parliamentary election.

‘In particular, anti-government and anti-liberation forces are trying to disrupt the government’s development activities by misleading the people through rumours and propaganda on social media. We have to be more vigilant against the rumours and propaganda in coming days,’ he said.

He added, “We have already completed around 70 workshops across the country. Our goal is to create 10,000 master trainers at district levels.”

He also said that these online activists would work to ensure that the reactionary group could not hamper the party’s achievements through any kind of rumour or propaganda in the coming days.

CRI coordinator Tonmoy Ahmed conducted the workshops.

Besides, according to sources in the party, several teams under eight central leaders of the Awami League are now working in the field level to reorganize strength of the party at the grass-roots.

Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, an Organising Secretary of the Awami League, said, “We are taking preparations for the field trips. Our main objectives would be to reorganize the party’s strength at the grassroots. It would be the most important political tasks of the party.”

Faruq Khan, a presidium member of the Awami League, said, “A total of eight teams have been formed for the purposes of field visits by the central leaders, who would identify the problems and also find out their solutions.”
