A total of 1 lakh 80 thousand 60 answer sheets from this year’s HSC and equivalent exams have been challenged by students under the Dhaka Education Board. The application period for result re-checks or “khata challenges” closed on October 22. The results of these re-checks are expected to be published on November 13 or 14, according to the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board on Thursday, October 24.
Last year, 31,574 students from Dhaka Board submitted applications for re-evaluation, covering 1 lakh 4 thousand 666 answer sheets. Following the re-checks, 145 students were promoted from fail to pass, 134 obtained new GPA-5 scores, and grades improved for 913 students.
The HSC and equivalent exam results were published on October 15, showing an average pass rate of 77.78 percent across the country. Out of 11 education boards, 1 lakh 45 thousand 911 students achieved GPA-5. Education boards offer students a chance to appeal their results if they feel their scores do not meet expectations. This year, the re-evaluation application period was open from October 16 to October 22.
The 2024 HSC or equivalent exams began on June 30. However, exams were interrupted after seven sessions due to student-led anti-discrimination protests. The exams were initially postponed to August 11, then to September 11, but were eventually canceled when students protested within the Secretariat in August.
As a solution, the Education Board announced that this year’s final results would be based on the completed exam papers, while scores for canceled exams would be determined through subject mapping from the SSC or equivalent exams.
