Due to onrush of upstream water from India and heavy rain, the flood situation has further deteriorated at Akhaura Upazila in Brahmanbaria.

Six unions of Akhaura Upazila and one union of Kasba Upazila have been flooded due to the onrush of upstream water.

Moreover, new areas are being flooded as dam broke at two places of Haowra river in Kholapara area of Akhaura. So, at least 1200 families have been marooned.

The onrush entered into several villages on Wednesday night. As a result of that, 40 villages of seven unions including Akhaura Uttar, Dakkhin, Mogra and Moniyondo, Kasba Upazila, have been flooded.

Besides, 5,476 hectares of paddy filed, 7050 hectares of vegetable land, 200 hectares of seedbed and several fish enclosures went under water.

Local and administration sources said heavy rain has started in Akhaura since Tuesday night.
