The Road Safety Foundation has compiled the report based on information from 7 national dailies, 5 online news portals and electronic media. This information was provided in a press release sent by the organization on Saturday.
The least number of fatalities, 42, were reported in Sylhet division. As a single district, Chittagong has the highest number of deaths at 48. At least 27 people have been killed in 21 accidents in the capital Dhaka.
In January, 216 people were killed in 187 motorcycle accidents. In February, 187 people were killed in 171 motorcycle accidents. Although the death toll in February was slightly lower than in January, it did not indicate any sustainable improvement.
The number of pedestrian casualties is also at an alarming level. Just as pedestrians do not follow the rules on the road, neither do the vehicles. As a result, the number of pedestrian deaths is increasing.
